Notes: Inscribed by the author on the title-page: 'To Hans & Riet, "as another year/ appears in the yard/ the seasons constant/ the wonder of light/ coming over us" (p. 38) with happy memories of Maastricht - Seamus, 18 June 2000'. The recipients were the Dutch poet poet Hans van de Waarsenburg and his wife, the artist Riet Armesz. In fact, the poet has slightly misquoted his own translation: 'until another year/ appeared in the yard/ as it does to this day,/ the seasons constant,/ the wonder of light/ coming over us'.
