Description: colour-printed frontispiece and 7 illustrations by the author, a few leaves with a small faint stain to page-border (not affecting text)2, one leaf with a very short closed tear to inner margin at foot (again, not touching text), a couple with a tiny nick at foot, pp. 310, [2, ads], crown 8vo, original green cloth, the lettering to backstrip and upper board and designs by the author wrapping round stamped in dark blue, lean to spine with a small spot just above the title to same, touch of rubbing at extremities, edges toned and a little spotted, endpaper maps printed in black and red, good

Publication Details: George Allen & Unwin, 1946

Notes: The fourth impression, one of 4.000 copies printed but scarce - notable as one of two printings, along with its 1942 predecessor, to be manufactured according to the 'wartime economy standard'. This printing introduces what Hammond and Anderson deduce are 'at least two corrections' to the text.
