Notes: The closing lines of his most famous poem ('[...] Approach thy grave/ Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch/ About him and lies down to pleasant dreams.'), identifiably in the author's hand and signed by him at the foot - dated to March 29th 1862, by which time he was a major public figure, editor of the New York Evening Post.
